We are seeking a Deputy Data Protection Officer


About the Role:

KPMG is seeking a Deputy Data Protection Officer (Deputy DPO) to strengthen our data protection framework. This pivotal role is designed for professionals who are keen to engage in the forefront of data protection, navigating through the complexities of regulatory compliance within a state-of-the-art technological environment. The Deputy DPO will play a critical role in supporting our organization's compliance with GDPR and other relevant data protection laws, ensuring the integration of data protection principles into our business processes. This position not only offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic and technologically advanced setting but also holds the potential for evolution into the DPO role, providing a clear pathway for career advancement within the field of data protection.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the elaboration of opinions and guidance (e.g. on data breaches and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)), as well as addressing inquiries from management on various data protection matters.
  • Monitor compliance with data protection policies and procedures by conducting regular audits.
  • Facilitate data protection training and awareness sessions for employees and management.
  • Manage and maintain relationships with the community of DPO service line contacts, ensuring a collaborative approach to data protection across the organization.
  • Provide guidance and opinions of data breaches and incidents, ensuring timely and effective management.


Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Degree in Law with a preference for additional qualifications in Risk Management, Technology, or Security; or a degree in Risk Management, IT, or Security with a strong orientation towards law, legal studies, or data protection.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in data protection, privacy law, or compliance.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in French and German is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated affinity for new technologies and their privacy implications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with various stakeholders.
  • Proficient in project management, capable of effectively coordinating data protection activities.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to articulate regulatory requirements and translate them into actionable recommendations.
  • Team-oriented but also capable of independent work.
  • Able to handle urgent situations with the necessary calm and efficiency.
