Reports to the Head of AIFM


Responsible for supporting the establishment and operation of the Aztec AIFM business in Luxembourg. Partnering with our internal team and clients, the role is responsible for supporting the design and implementation of the risk management framework and operations.


Reporting directly to the risk conducting officer, the individual will partner closely with colleagues, our external consultants and engage with the CSSF to develop out Aztec AIFM Risk Management services and ;


This is a very exciting opportunity to lead and shape a new service offering that is strategically important to Aztec and our clients. The individual will be excited about starting with a blank page to build a market leading AIFM business that is high quality, scalable and dynamic.


You will be a key member of the AIFM management team who collaborate together to achieve strategic outcomes for our people and clients.


Key responsibilities:

  • Manager of the permanent risk management function (a CSSF approved position)
  • Understand the AIFM and funds’ risk profile, help maintain and update the risk policies and regulatory framework in accordance with these profiles
  • Responsible for performing oversight of the funds to ensure compliance with the investment objectives, risk parameters and risk characteristics
  • Ongoing monitoring on the risks a Fund can be exposed to, such as Market, Credit, Liquidity, Counterparty and Operational risks
  • Where breaches occur the Risk Officer must escalate them to ensure appropriate action is taken to remediate the breach
  • Keep abreast of latest trends / regulations on risk management and provide risk advice on new products and services
  • Contribute towards regulatory reporting ( AIFMD/Annex IV, CSSF reporting) and other requests relating to Risk Management
  • Liaise with fund Officers, clients, auditors (both internal and external) and other key stakeholders
  • Work closely with other team members across the wider group to strengthen cross jurisdictional relationships with colleagues and mutual clients
  • Act as a mentor to junior colleagues and supervise and assist in the training and development of staff. Motivate, nurture and develop engaged employees
  • Actively manage the appraisal process for all direct reports
  • Attend and participate at internal management meetings 
  • Other ad-hoc analysis and tasks to assist the operations and growth of the business and ensure smooth running of daily activities
  • Contribute towards the business-as-a-whole


Skills, knowledge, expertise:

  • 4 years' practical risk management experience in a similar role
  • Sound technical financial services knowledge (to be supported through the Aztec Academy)
  • An understanding of Luxembourg fund regulations, in particular AIFMD
  • Experience in a similar role or role with transferrable skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required to develop close working relationships with colleagues, clients and stakeholders
  • Solution-orientated and high level of integrity and dependability
  • Effective communicator in both written and oral communication formats
  • Experience and track record of day to day management and supervision of a team
  • An understanding of private equity, real estate, infrastructure and fund of fund asset classes an advantage but not essential
