THE ROLE


The Depositary manager is a core member of the Luxembourg Depositary Team, responsible for the overall delivery of depositary services to a portfolio of clients. The role involves leading a client facing operations team and providing subject matter expertise on a broad range of traditional and alternative asset classes. It also requires direct involvement in performing daily depositary oversight activities. The manager should have effective communication and relationship management skills as week as a deep knowledge of the regulatory and legal obligations of traditional and alternative investment funds. A proven track record of delivering Depositary service excellence, building business relationships and adhering to the regulatory, legal and corporate control framework is expected.


CORE DUTIES


  • Lead depositary operations team and provide technical, functional knowledge and soft skill qualities to improve individual and team capability and effectiveness.
  • Ensure that Depositary oversight requirements are consistently delivered by the team and escalate issues where appropriate to management.
  • Provide client support on a day to day ensuring a consistently high quality is maintained per contractual and regulatory obligations.
  • Work with senior management to determine new strategies for Depositary services and deliver upon those.
  • Develop deep and trusted relationships with clients, internal partners and stakeholders, focussing on continuous improvement, risk awareness, client satisfaction.
  • Monitor the regulatory environment and assessing business and client impact, ensuring Lux Depositary services are compliant with applicable laws, regulations and circulars.
  • Attend, assist and coach for client and internal due diligence visits.
  • Review and develop client reports, KPIs, Board reporting and present these at client and management meetings.
  • Assist in sales pitches and preparing materials.
  • Represent NTGS Lux Depositary at industry events and internal governance committees and meetings, assess the evolving Depositary operating model and product differentiators.
  • Consistently look for opportunities to improve upon the NTGS Depositary business model. Assess the risks associated with Lux Depositary and client relationships, identify and manage these risks with the parties concerned.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS


  • Experience in a Depositary, Custodian or Fund servicing role pertaining to alternative assets
  • Experience dealing with internal management, including functions of compliance, finance, risk, legal and audit
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and projects
  • Proven client service experience
  • Fluent in English language
  • Personal confidence and flexibility to undertake the variety of tasks required to build out the proposition and win and support client mandates
  • Good training skills and the ability to mentor and educate new members of the team
  • A ‘can do’ attitude – including a willingness to tackle a broad range of work and to work enthusiastically within a team
  • The ability to work under pressure and to represent Northern Trust professionally and positively, both internally and externally
  • Experience in the transition and on-boarding of funds and the corresponding client relationships


QUALIFICATIONS


  • Masters’ degree or a professional qualification in Finance, Audit, Compliance or Law
  • Masters’ degree or professional qualification in finance, economics, law or compliance
  • Strong understanding of Alternative Investment Funds
  • Fluent written and spoken English, with French being and advantage
