Compliance Officer - EU Institutions

Our client, a European bank, based in Kirchberg, is looking for a Compliance Officer to join its Compliance department. This will be a 2-months interim contract that may be extended in accordance with Luxembourgish law, for a maximum duration of 1 year.

Your responsabilities :

• Assess compliance risks associated with clients and counterparties, particularly regarding AML/CFT requirements, integrity concerns and potential reputational risks.
• Review and analyse compliance cases escalated by operational teams, ensuring alignment with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
• Independently evaluate and challenge risk assessments conducted by the first line of defence, identifying potential weaknesses or inconsistencies.
• Verify the accuracy and completeness of compliance documentation, requesting additional information or supporting evidence when necessary.
• Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on AML/CFT procedures, risk mitigation measures and compliance-related matters.
• Prepare compliance assessments, opinions and recommendations, particularly for high-risk counterparties and complex transactions.
• Monitor ongoing compliance cases, follow up on outstanding requests and ensure appropriate resolution and documentation.
• Support the identification and timely escalation of suspicious transactions or activities in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accurate and auditable records of compliance reviews, decisions, recommendations and follow-up actions.
• Collaborate with management and internal teams to address emerging compliance risks and contribute to continuous improvements in compliance processes.
• Participate in additional compliance projects and initiatives as required.

Your profile :

• University degree in Law, Finance, Economics, Political Science or a related field.
• At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in AML/CFT compliance, ideally within a bank, financial institution or regulated environment.
• Strong understanding of AML/CFT regulations, compliance risk assessment methodologies and internal control frameworks.
• Previous experience reviewing complex compliance cases, conducting due diligence or assessing high-risk counterparties would be an advantage.
• Good knowledge of compliance databases, screening tools and online research techniques.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard IT applications.
• Strong analytical and investigative skills, with excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present findings and recommendations clearly.
• Ability to prioritise multiple assignments, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
• High level of integrity, discretion, accountability and professional judgement.
• Fluency in both French and English is mandatory, with excellent written and spoken communication skills in both languages.
