About us

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The LCEL focuses on the interdisciplinary field of European law and uses to full capacity its proximity to key EU institutions in Luxembourg. The new Interdisciplinary Centre (IC) will combine academic excellence and strategic research with impact. The IC will reflect in its strategic focus the European political agenda of a dual (digital and green) transition and topics related to European sovereignty.

Complementing the library landscape, the Luxembourg Centre for European Law library, located in the Weicker building (Kirchberg), supports research and teaching activities by providing specialised resources in European Union law, public and private law, and related areas, and by acting as a central hub for scholars, students and practitioners interested in European and international legal studies.

The librarian recruited for this position will be based primarily in Weicker, working in close collaboration with colleagues in the LLC and other University areas You will join a committed, international team of more than 35 library and information professionals who are engaged to delivering high-quality services, collections, research support and innovating to meet user needs.

Your role

As a Librarian, you will be part of the team providing direct support to users in the University libraries. Your main focus will be on user services and information support, complemented by training and guidance in using documentary or information resources.

  • Welcome and advise users at the library front desk (and via e-mail or phone), providing a professional, service-oriented first contact
  • Answer and follow up on users' information requests and support them in locating and using resources related to the University's different research, teaching and learning activities
  • Guide users in searching the catalogue, discovery tools and key subject databases; help them refine search strategies and understand available document types
  • Support users with the international interlibrary loan service
  • Provide one-to-one "desk coaching" and short introductory explanations on how to approach literature searches
  • Participate in the organisation and delivery of brief library tours and introductory sessions for students, researchers and other groups
  • Draft and update clear user-oriented documentation on finding and using documentary resources
  • Perform day-to-day circulation operations and ensure correct application of library policies
  • Contribute to the practical management of print collections: receiving and processing new acquisitions, shelving, shelf reading and basic weeding/inventories
  • Assist in maintaining and improving the quality of records and holdings information in the library system, and report issues or inconsistencies
  • Collect and share user feedback, signal problems with services or systems, and propose pragmatic improvements to front-office workflows
  • Support the preparation of usage statistics and reports related to loans, visits and training activities
  • Keep informed about developments in librarianship and in the University's teaching and research areas and integrate this into daily service

Your profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, Documentation or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in an academic or specialised library
  • Good knowledge of front‑office library services and ability to coordinate daily service processes
  • Familiarity with library management systems and discovery tools; comfortable working with online databases and digital resources; knowledge Alma is a strong asset
  • Demonstrated experience in providing user-oriented services and communicating complex information clearly to users with varying levels of knowledge and experience
  • Proven ability to manage user data, bibliographic or item records and administrative processes accurately, reliably and in accordance with established procedures

Language Requirements: Excellent command of English (C1) and very good command in at least one of French or German (B2); knowledge of Luxembourgish or any other language at any level would be considered an asset.
