Mainframe Infrastructure Consultant (z/OS)

Context

For the needs of a major enterprise environment operating critical business systems, we are looking for an experienced Mainframe Infrastructure Consultant to join a strategic modernization and transformation program.

This assignment focuses on the evolution, migration, and optimization of a highly critical IBM Mainframe ecosystem. The consultant will play a key role in infrastructure upgrades, software modernization initiatives, and coordination with external technology partners.

Your Responsibilities

As part of the Mainframe Services team, you will contribute to major infrastructure transformation projects and operational improvements, including:

Leading and supporting IBM Mainframe platform upgrade initiatives.

Participating in hardware modernization programs and infrastructure refresh activities.

Managing and coordinating migration projects across complex z/OS environments.

Collaborating closely with IBM and other strategic technology partners on architecture and configuration activities.

Driving operating system upgrades, maintenance operations, and platform lifecycle management.

Supporting the migration and replacement of legacy tooling with modern Mainframe software solutions.

Coordinating upgrades of critical middleware and third-party products running on the Mainframe platform.

Ensuring platform stability, performance, resilience, and service continuity during transformation projects.

Providing technical expertise during change, release, and deployment activities.

Contributing to best practices, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Experience

To be successful in this role, you should demonstrate:

Strong hands-on expertise within IBM Mainframe environments.

Deep knowledge of z/OS administration and infrastructure management.

Proven experience participating in large-scale Mainframe migration or modernization programs.

Solid exposure to hardware configuration and implementation activities in collaboration with vendors.

Experience upgrading mission-critical operating systems and enterprise software stacks.

Good understanding of Mainframe middleware ecosystems and associated services.

Previous involvement in software transformation or tool migration projects within Mainframe environments.

Experience with technologies such as the following would be highly valued:

DB2

CICS

COBOL environments

IBM MQ

Workload scheduling tools

Enterprise monitoring and automation solutions
