Mechanical Engineer – Process & Industrial Equipment
About the Hiring Company
Our client is an innovative industrial company operating at the intersection of chemical and metallurgical process technologies. Active across Western Europe, the company is in a phase of significant growth: scaling its proprietary technology from pilot and demonstration stages to full industrial deployment.
This expansion is driving the need for experienced process engineers who can bridge the gap between R&D-driven innovation and large-scale plant design, commissioning, and operation. It's a rare opportunity to join a technically ambitious organization where your engineering expertise will have a direct, visible impact on the industrialization of next-generation process technology.
About the Role
We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our in-house equipment development team. In this role, you will design components and assemblies for gas-processing equipment, translating process requirements into practical mechanical solutions. Reporting to the Lead Process Engineer, you will take ownership of assigned equipment components from concept through detailed design, working at the intersection of engineering rigor and hands-on industrial thinking.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design & Equipment Development
- Prepare equipment requirements and design briefs for processing equipment.
- Develop concept proposals and detailed designs for components and subassemblies under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Create equipment layouts, 3D models, fabrication drawings, bills of materials, and design specifications.
- Select appropriate materials, fittings, and welding methods.
- Ensure compliance with European and international engineering standards.
Technical Documentation & Design Quality
- Create and maintain detailed 2D/3D designs using SolidWorks, Inventor, or Siemens NX.
- Develop technical documentation including fabrication drawings, specifications, and reports.
- Prepare technical packages for manufacturing and supplier inquiries.
- Apply knowledge of welded joints, flange connections, and pipe fitting techniques.
- Ensure quality control according to European welding standards.
Engineering Integration & Project Support
- Collaborate closely with process, electrical, and automation engineering teams.
- Provide technical support during project execution and commissioning phases.
- Participate in technical reviews and design optimisations.
- Support equipment and component selection during procurement.
- Review vendor drawings and incorporate approved comments.
- Work with manufacturing and assembly teams during fabrication, collecting feedback from shop-floor personnel, welders, and technicians.
- Analyse manufacturing and assembly feedback, identify recurring design issues, and implement design adjustments.
- Document lessons learned and translate them into recommendations for future equipment designs and optimisation initiatives.

- Solid understanding of mechanical principles, stress, load, and basic structural considerations in equipment design.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of EU engineering standards and the ability to apply engineering design guidelines.
- Languages: Fluent English at a technical level (B2+).
- Innovative thinking, strong communication and presentation skills, and a product-ownership mentality.
Nice-to-Have
- Knowledge of pressure vessel design and stress analysis.
- Familiarity with process engineering and fluid mechanics.
