Our client, a European institution, is looking for a Production assistant who speaks english fluently and has a good knowledge of french. This is a temporary contract.
- The candidate assumes responsibility for their own translation projects through planning and scheduling, pre-processing of documents, following up on and tracking documents received for translation or editing during all stages of the process, from the point of entry to the point of exit, and ensuring that set deadlines are respected.
- He prepares texts for translation into several languages: analyses/checks texts, including pre- and post-processing as well as finding and attaching reference material.
- The candidate prepares and follows up on large projects in all EU and other languages, deals simultaneously with in-house and external translators. Monitors the entire workflow of such projects from editing, translation, revision - dealing with multiple new versions - to proofreading and closing of projects.
- He finalises translation projects by ensuring that language versions are correctly formatted, complete and without formal mistakes (names, numbers etc.) and by updating translation memories for outsourced languages.
- The candidate supervises the translation workflow in close interaction with the Linguistic Services Division's clients on the one hand and the translators themselves (in-house and external) on the other.
- He negotiates deadlines with clients and consults them in case of conflicting deadlines.
- The candidate corrects, when necessary, data input into the workflow management tool, thus contributing to reliable statistics.
- He participates in the continuous improvement of the Division's procedures, in particular in parts concerning the Production Management Unit.
- The candidate occasionally carries out spot-checks of translations into their native language other than English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
- The candidate has a secondary level education, complemented with a 2-year certification in a relevant field (e.g. secretarial studies, business administration) or secondary level education with equally qualified experience in a relevant field.
- He has at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in a translation environment (experience with workflow management would be an asset).
- Thorough knowledge of computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools (preferably the SDL Studio suite) is a requirement.
- The candidate has excellent formatting skills: proficient in Word, good knowledge of Excel, basic knowledge of PowerPoint, experience with converting PDF files for translation purposes.
- He has good knowledge of standard office tools and enthusiasm to learn how to use new IT tools such as the workflow management system.
- The candidate has excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and a good command of French. Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
