About us...

The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg. We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine - in the lab, in the clinic and in silico. We focus on neurodegeneration and are especially interested in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and their contributing factors.

The LCSB recruits talented scientists from various disciplines. Computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, engineers, physicists and clinicians from more than 50 countries currently work at the LCSB. We excel because we are truly interdisciplinary and together, we contribute to science and society.

Successful candidates will join the Bioinformatics Core, led by Prof. Reinhard Schneider, which focuses on managing and analysing complex biomedical and clinical data. We are internationally recognized for our cutting-edge data handling, analysis and mining including GDPR compliant data hosting solutions, data management systems and high performance and throughput approaches. We develop innovative methodologies for data mining, federated data analysis, and data FAIRification. We strongly advocate following responsible and reproducible research (R3) principles and best practices in software development. For more information, please visit our website.

We are looking for a Bioinformatician to analyse high throughput single and bulk cell RNA sequencing datasets, spatial transcriptomics and multi-omics (metabolomics and proteomics) datasets. The Bioinformatician will interact with scientific researchers, post-doctoral fellows and research technicians of the different groups at the LCSB to explore and analyze large and heterogenous datasets in the area of neurogenerative diseases, especially Parkinson's and Alzheimer's Diseases.

Your Role...

  • Participate in research activities involved in the analysis of multiomics data sets including next-generation sequencing, single cell/nuclear transcriptomics, bulk RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, metabolomics and proteomics datasets
  • Coordinate data handling and analysis for multi-omics data
  • Participate as a team member in experimental design and data analysis
  • Coordinate publications related to the project and scientific results
  • Work in close collaboration with LCSB members on scientific projects

What we expect from you…

  • Education:
    • Essential: Master's degree or equivalent in bioinformatics, computational biology, medical engineering, computer science, with an interest in biomedical informatics and translational medicine
    • Desirable: PhD in any of the above-mentioned fields of study
  • Demonstrated expertise in R programming with a strong command of bioinformatics workflows, including data manipulation, statistical analysis, and visualization using relevant packages from Bioconductor including (but not limited) to DESeq2, limma, BioMart, Seurat, gViz, and edgeR
  • Proficiency in developing interactive web applications and data visualizations with R Shiny, Plotly, ggplot2, and Seaborn or similar dataviz libraries
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Familiarity with UNIX systems including SHELL or AWK scripting
  • Experience in working on High-Performance Computing (HPC) environment is an advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to articulate clearly scientific and technical needs
  • Excellent capacity to work with others in a collaborative environment
  • Prior experience in analysis of bulk, single-cell/nuclear, spatial transcriptomics as well as multi-omics data is necessary and research experience in neurogenerative diseases AD/PD is considered an advantage

Here's what awaits you at the LCSB...

  • Excellent work environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, laboratory and administrative support
  • Truly connected. We work together with hospitals and research institutes on a national and international level as well as industrial partners. Connection between science and society is very important to us. From our school lab - the Scienteens Lab - to the different outreach activities and collaborative partnerships with patient associations, we love to listen to society's needs and share our passion for science
  • Be part of a multicultural team. At the LCSB we have more than 50 nationalities. Throughout the year, we organise team-building events, networking activities and more
