About us
The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.
The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) at the University of Luxembourg contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences and Medicine.
Through its dual mission of teaching and research, the FSTM seeks to generate and disseminate knowledge and train new generations of responsible citizens in order to better understand, explain and advance society and the environment we live in.
Your role
- Design and perform single-cell and bulk level multiomic experiments linking gene expression with chromatin profiling using glial cells from different mouse brain regions
- Analyse and integrate single-cell transcriptomic and epigenomic data with complementary datasets generated by the collaborating group to identify glial subpopulations, regulatory elements and gene regulatory networks
- Establish and work with primary mouse astrocyte and oligodendroglial cultures to validate candidate regulators using gene overexpression, RNA interference and/or CRISPR-based epigenome editing
- Test how regional identity and sex hormones influence glial functions, oxidative stress vulnerability and metabolic phenotypes, in coordination with the project's collaborators
- Take responsibility for the Luxembourg research activities, coordinate closely with the Saarland team, and document experiments and analyses reproducibly
- Prepare manuscripts, present findings at scientific meetings, and contribute to the group's teaching and student mentoring activities
Your profile
- A PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, epigenetics, bioinformatics or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated expertise in experimental molecular biology and mammalian cell culture. Experience with primary glial cells, mouse models, or other relevant neural cell models is particularly welcome
- A strong interest in gene regulation, epigenetics and glial biology, and a willingness to develop computational skills and connect molecular datasets with functional experiments
- Experience in single-cell sequencing data analysis or multiomic data integration is desirable. Experience with chromatin profiling, RNA interference or CRISPR-based perturbation will also be an advantage
- A record of communicating research through scientific publications and/or presentations
- Excellent command of English
We offer
- A modern, dynamic university with a personal and inclusive atmosphere. Multilingual and international character. Staff coming from more than 90 countries. Member of The Guild of European Research Intensive Universities
