The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg.
We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine - in the lab, in the clinic and in silico. We focus on neurodegenerative processes and are especially interested in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and their contributing factors. Your role

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of reliable, reproducible and reusable AI infrastructure for biomedical research, supporting the transition of machine-learning (ML) methods from research prototypes into robust and deployable workflows. The role involves close collaboration with data scientists, software developers, infrastructure teams, clinicians and European project partners.

The position combines MLOps engineering, research software development and technical coordination across cloud, High-Performance Computing (HPC) and federated research environments. A key focus will be the development of automated and reproducible AI workflows that can be reliably deployed and reused across different research infrastructures.

The candidate will also contribute to technical architecture, interoperability, data governance and the development of sustainable AI services supporting biomedical research projects. This position is particularly suited to candidates interested in bridging ML, software engineering and translational biomedical research within a highly collaborative European environment.

Your responsibilities include:

• Define technical requirements for AI/ML workflows in collaboration with scientific, clinical and infrastructure stakeholders
• Design and implement reproducible ML pipelines covering data preparation, model training, validation, deployment and monitoring
• Establish and maintain MLOps practices, including CI/CD, containerisation, model and data versioning, experiment tracking and automated testing
• Deploy and support AI workflows across cloud, HPC and federated research environments
• Translate scientific and technical requirements into implementable specifications and coordinate development with software engineers, data scientists and infrastructure teams
• Contribute to technical architecture, documentation, project deliverables and the long-term sustainability of developed services
• Apply FAIR principles and support interoperability, data provenance, access management and the secure handling of biomedical data
• Develop and support privacy-preserving and federated AI workflows for distributed research environments

Your profile

Core qualifications:

• PhD in relevant domains including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or High-Performance Computing
• Strong programming skills in Python; knowledge of R, Shell, and Linux is an advantage
• Experience with Git, Docker, CI/CD, and development of ML pipelines
• Experience with databases, APIs, and structured data formats such as JSON
• Good understanding of ML, statistical methods, and model evaluation
• Excellent command in English is required

Desirable:

• Experience with Kubernetes, MLflow, Airflow, Kubeflow, or comparable tools
• Experience with cloud or HPC environments and federated/distributed computing
• Experience with European collaborative research projects and biomedical or clinical data

Personal Skills:

• Open-minded, critical thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable working across disciplines and communicating with clinical, technical, and scientific stakeholders
