The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social and educational sciences. People from across 20 disciplines are working within the Faculty. Along with the disciplinary approach a very ambitious interdisciplinary research culture has been developed.

The faculty's research and teaching focuses on social, economic, political and educational issues with the common goal of contributing to an inclusive, open and resourceful society. The FHSE offers six Bachelor and twenty Master degrees and a doctoral school providing students with the necessary knowledge and high-qualified skills to succeed in their future career.

Your Role...

The Postdoctoral researcher will be a member of the Institute of Teaching and Learning within the Department of Education and Social Work at the University of Luxembourg. S/he will be part of a team in the dynamic organisational context of a growing, globally connected research university. The postdoctoral researcher will work with Professor Dr Janne Fengler on gaining understandings of contexts and processes of learning and teaching. The ideal candidate has substantive interest in related issues, advanced methodological training (qualitative and / or quantitative) and would like to contribute to an international and multilingual team.

  • Content-related and organizational support for the professorship
  • Project-related and independent research at the interface of education and social work
  • Application for and organisation of third-party funding
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals (preferably in English and / or German)
  • Teaching in the study program Bachelor en Formation Pédagogique and possibly further study programs at the Department of Education and Social Work
  • Independent supervision of students and doctoral candidates
  • Support in the further development of the Bachelor en Formation Pédagogique program and in the expansion of networks with stakeholders and partners,
  • Transfer of relevant results to various communities from science and politics to a broader public
  • Academic self-administration (Institute, Department and Faculty)

What we expect from you…

  • Excellent PhD in Educational Sciences preferably with reference to one of the following subject areas:
    • didactics and methodology in adult education or in pedagogical work with children / teaching-learning-research
    • experiential education / outdoor education
    • pedagogical professionalisation / teacher education
    • educational systems
    • social inequality / social exclusion / social participation
  • Interest in educational science issues, strong personal commitment to science at the interface of education and social work and ambition to advance one of the aforementioned subject areas
  • Fluency in German and English is required, Luxembourgish and / or French will be considered an asset
  • Excellent command of quantitative and / or qualitative empirical methods; openness to mixed methods research
  • Interest in empirical social research and working with data
  • International publications in peer-reviewed journals and / or book publications
  • Demonstrated teaching experience and project management skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and a positive, proactive attitude to balance research, teaching and administrative activities.
