About us

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg.
We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine - in the lab, in the clinic and
in silico. We focus on neurodegenerative processes and are especially interested in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and their contributing factors. The LCSB recruits talented scientists from various disciplines: computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, engineers, physicists and clinicians from more than 50 countries currently work at the LCSB. We excel because we are truly interdisciplinary, and together we contribute to science and society.

The successful candidate will join the Integrative Cell Signalling group led by Prof. Dr. Alexander Skupin, which focuses on multiscale biology of neurodegeneration by combining multiomics and imaging characterization of stem cell-derived brain cells with advanced bioinformatics approaches and mechanistic modelling. Our main interest is how perturbed brain energy metabolism contributes to brain disorders including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy and others. Your role

You will work within a multidisciplinary environment together with experimental neuroscientists, bioinformaticians, mathematical modellers and software engineers. Your research will focus on developing ML- and AI-supported methods and tools to analyse heterogenous multimodal data generated from different neurodegenerative models including investigations on the impact of microgravity in collaboration with the company Exobiosphere.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Developing and applying ML- and AI-based methods to multimodal datasets: multiomics, imaging, functional data
  • Designing and implementing corresponding pipelines for automated data analyses
  • Designing and implementing data structuring and harmonisation pipelines
  • Analysing the effect of microgravity on brain cells
  • Collaborating closely with experimentalists, data analysists and space scientist to develop integrative workflows
  • Supporting documentation, reproducibility, and dissemination of research outputs: scientific publications, presentations, consortium deliverables
