About us

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) at the University of Luxembourg is a leading international research and innovation centre in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT systems and services.
We play an instrumental role in Europe by fueling innovation through research partnerships with industry, boosting R&D investments leading to economic growth, and attracting highly qualified talent. We look for researchers from diverse academic backgrounds to contribute to our projects in areas such as: Network Security, Information Assurance, Model-driven Security, Cloud Computing, Cryptography, Satellite Systems, Vehicular Networks, and ICT Services & Applications.

Your role

SnT carries out interdisciplinary research in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) systems and services, often in collaboration with governmental, industrial and international partners. SnT is active in several national projects funded by National Research Fund (FNR) and local industries, and international research projects funded by the EU FP7 program, H2020 program and the European Space Agency (ESA). For further information, you may check: www.securityandtrust.lu

The SigCom research group carries out research activities in the areas of signal processing for wireless communication systems including satellite communications and radar systems and is currently expanding its research activities in exploring several emerging use cases of next generation wireless communications systems. We're looking for people driven by excellence, excited about innovation, and looking to make a difference. If this sounds like you, you've come to the right place!

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct original research on joint communications and radar sensing for spaceborne systems, with a focus on 3GPP compliant 5G/6G NR NTN OFDM waveforms
  • Develop and analyse signal processing and/or machine learning algorithms for joint channel, delay, Doppler and carrier phase estimation, remote object ranging and tracking in LEO constellations, and monostatic and bistatic SAR imaging using communication waveforms
  • Design and evaluate self-interference cancellation (analog/digital) and synchronization techniques enabling full duplex or simultaneous communication-sensing operation
  • Implement the proposed techniques on the 6GSPACE Lab testbeds (SDR/FPGA/RFSoC based platforms and NTN channel emulators), including real time or hardware in the loop validation
  • Plan and execute measurement campaigns and lab experiments for key J CROSS use cases, e.g. remote ranging, SAR imaging, object detection, and benchmark performance against state of the art solutions and project KPIs
  • Disseminate results through high impact journal and conference publications, demonstrations, and (where appropriate) patent filings
  • Contribute to ESA project deliverables, technical reports and, when relevant, inputs to standardization bodies, e.g. via ESA NTN Forum / 3GPP study items
  • Support the preparation of new research proposals and provide co supervision of PhD/MSc students working on related topics

Your profile

  • A PhD degree in Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, or a closely related field, with a strong background in wireless communications and/or radar signal processing
  • Solid understanding of 3GPP 5G NR (ideally NR NTN) physical layer and radio access concepts, including OFDM, MIMO, synchronization, channel estimation and link adaptation
  • Proven experience in signal processing for communications and/or radar, such as estimation and detection, SAR processing, beamforming, tracking, or joint communication sensing algorithms
  • Hands-on experience with software defined radio (SDR) platforms, e.g. USRP, RFSoC, LimeSDR and/or hardware testbeds for wireless or satellite systems
  • Strong programming skills in at least two of the following: MATLAB, Python, C/C++; experience with GNU Radio, OpenAirInterface, srsRAN, or similar frameworks is a significant asset
  • Familiarity with satellite/NTN channel modelling, orbital mechanics tools, e.g. STK, or network simulators, e.g. ns 3, is considered an advantage
  • A sound publication record in relevant international conferences and high quality journals, e.g. IEEE ComSoc, VTS, AESS, GRSS, SPS venues
  • Experience working in collaborative research projects, e.g. ESA, EU, FNR, or industrial, and contributing to project deliverables is highly desirable
  • Highly committed, excellent team player, with strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • International experience and exposure to multidisciplinary or multi partner consortia are advantageous
  • Fluency in English is required

We offer

  • Multilingual and international character. Modern institution with a personal atmosphere. Staff coming from 90 countries. Member of the "University of the Greater Region" (UniGR)
  • A modern and dynamic university. High-quality equipment. Close ties to the business world and to the Luxembourg labour market. A unique urban site with excellent infrastructure
  • A partner for society and industry. Cooperation with European institutions, innovative companies, the Financial Centre and with numerous non-academic partners such as ministries, local governments, associations, NGOs …
