In September 2018, the Luxembourg Learning Centre (LLC) open its doors to the public. The LLC houses the university library that serves as a hub of knowledge and resource sharing for the University of Luxembourg. Occupying a sprawling 14k square meters across five public floors and 10.7 km of shelves, the LLC boasts an extensive collection including 320 databases, 81k electronic and paper journals, 197k books and more than 900k e-books. Emphasizing open access to information, our library provides a dynamic and innovative learning environment that supports academic research, teaching and learning. proving the missions of the University for "research, higher education and contribution to the social, cultural and economic development of Luxembourg." Its modern facilities and wide array of resources and services are designed to cater to the diverse needs of researchers, students and faculty alike, fostering a community centered around collaboration and academic excellence.

The LLC is recruiting a dedicated and experienced Librarian to join our team at the University of Luxembourg. This role is uniquely positioned as liaison with the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) , and requires a professional who is adept at managing specialised information resources in these disciplines. Additionally, the role includes significant involvement in the management of electronic resources as part of the Consortium Luxembourg. This position is a user-centered role and so it is intended for a professional with an interpersonal approach and a clear user-focused perspective.

Your Role...

Assigned to the Collection Development Team, in the Resource & Technical Services of the LLC, you will be in charge of:

  • Develop and manage the library collection mainly for the disciplines of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM).
  • Provide a detailed collection development policy, annual collection development plans and budget management to ensure resources meet the needs of faculty, researchers and students.
  • Act as sparring partner for researchers, students and academic and other library staff to provide expert content advice, research support and information literacy training tailored to the fields of STEM disciplines, such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences, Medicine and eventually for other subjects like Psychology.
  • Reply to enquiries, questions and requests for information in the subjects of responsibility.
  • Engage in scholarly activities and professional development opportunities related to STEM librarianship.
  • Establish Subject Guides, Web Pages, Bibliographies and other appropriate tools in areas of expertise for the different academic and research programmes running at the University.
  • Be expert interface between academics, Rectorate and end-users on topics related to e-resources of the LLC.
  • Coordinate the selection, negotiation, acquisition, accessibility, and effective utilization of electronic resources (books, journals and databases) in alignment with the academic library's goals and the Consortium Luxembourg agreements.
  • Monitor budget allocations for e-resources acquisitions and subscriptions, including trials, statistics, negotiation and licensing.
  • Active participation to the strategic management of the library on electronic collections development.
  • Implement and promote digital tools and technologies to enhance library services and user engagement.
  • Analyze usage data of collections and services to inform decision-making and improve resource allocation.
  • Harmonize with other colleagues from the Collection Development Team to increase the accessibility and visibility of resources at the LLC.
  • Engage with other library services to support the overall mission of the LLC.

What we expect from you…

  • Master's Degree in Library/Information/Documentation Science or Master's Degree in a scientific discipline and completed with an Information Management Diploma.
  • At least five years of professional experience in an academic library setting, with a focus on STEM disciplines.
  • Experience with library management systems (knowledge of Alma and Leganto being an advantage) and standard office software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the latest resources, databases, and technologies in the fields of Medicine, Science, and Technology.
  • Proven experience in electronic resources management, including knowledge of consortia dynamics and vendor negotiations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working collaboratively with diverse teams including faculty, students, researchers and library staff.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Fluent in English and German (spoken & written). French and/or Luxembourgish language knowledge is a plus.
