The Data Platform Engineer’s role is to support the automation and digitalisation of Advanzia’s data infrastructure while monitoring the provisioning of our production environments. This role focuses specifically on administering the IBM Cloud Pak for Data solution, based on OpenShift technology and hosted in the cloud. The Data Platform Engineer reports to the Head of IT Services in charge of Application Support & Automation Integration.
ABOUT THE JOB l What will you do?
As a Data Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for the following activities:
- Be responsible for the IBM Cloud Pak, the data platform and its various services
- Implement and maintain the underlying Red Hat OpenShift cluster in a cloud environment
- Author and maintain the automated deployment process based on Terraform for the complete platform
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure the platform follows the infrastructure and security standards (identity and access management, backup, recovery, resilience) in the cloud
- Provide support and guidance in the integration of data sources in the data platform
- Deliver technical architecture related information, support technical discovery sessions, assist architects/team leads as required, and respond to architecture, infrastructure and security questions
- Support functional discovery sessions and respond to functional questions
- Communicate recommendations regarding resource specifications, networking requirements and sizing to stakeholders
- Interact with IBM Technical Support and IBM Technical Sales to verify, discuss and close issues or questions that arise
- Provide pre- and post-implementation documentation, including but not limited to interface specifications, requirements and design documentation, configuration documentation, user manuals and user guides
- Diagnose, document, report and resolve system and application problems, including application performance and SLAs
- Work directly with external partners and vendors and interface with other internal and external support teams
- Communicate clearly and efficiently with internal and external stakeholders, highlighting any risks or blockers with recommendations to remediate and work around identified issues
ABUT YOU l What’s your background?
Required qualifications
- University degree, preferably in computer science, information systems or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a similar position
- Containerised software applications and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Deployment, administration and maintenance of cloud environments using Infrastructure-as-a-Code
- Hands-on experience with RedHat OpenShift architecture products and solutions, including architecture design, installation, configuration and testing
- Experience in installation, configuration and deployment of IBM Cloud Pak for Data products
- Experience in OS and application security hardening
- Demonstrable expertise in the use of various Cloud Pak for Data service cartridges, including but not limited to visualisations and dashboards, data catalogues, ETL tools and R Studio environments
Desired qualifications
- Various authentication systems such as LDAP (Microsoft Active Directory)
- Middleware/web-based applications (Apache, JBoss, Kafka etc.)
- Integrated IBM Cloud Pak for Data with Microsoft SQL Server, API services or Azure Cosmos DB
